How it works and what it costs
One fixed price, agreed before I start. You buy the computer and own it. I do the rest.
How setup works
- We talk. You tell me what documents you have and who would use the system. I tell you which setup fits and what it costs.
- You buy the computer. I tell you exactly which one, sized to your documents. It's yours. I don't resell hardware or mark it up.
- I set it up in your office, with a login for each person. It only works from inside your office network.
- I load your documents, including converting scanned pages so they can be searched.
- I check the answers against questions your staff really ask, and adjust the settings.
- I train your people, and you launch.
You pay half when we start and half at launch.

Every setup also includes
- The exact computer to buy.
- A login for each person, and access only from inside the office.
- A record of who used the system and when.
- A written backup procedure.
- A written statement of how your files are handled.
- Making up to 2,000 pages of scanned paper documents searchable.
- Free updates for problems reported in the first 90 days after launch.
Good to know
- Everyone who can log in to a system can search all of its document libraries. If some people must not see some documents, those documents need their own system. That's what Plus is for.
- Document counts are a guide. I confirm what your computer can handle before we agree the price.
- "Questions by email" means how-to questions from your staff. New work, like loading more documents, adding people beyond the setup, or more training, is billed by the hour.
After setup
$175 an hour, one-hour minimum, billed as the work happens. There's no monthly support plan. This covers updates, adding documents, adding people, more training, fixing problems, and scanning beyond the included pages.
90-day promise: if you report a problem with the system in the first 90 days after launch, the update that fixes it is installed free, whenever that fix is ready.
In person and travel
For firms on the Delmarva Peninsula and in the Washington, DC area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia, setup and training are in person where the setup includes it. Everywhere else in the US, I work by video call. In person is available on request: travel costs at cost, and travel time at half the hourly rate ($87.50 an hour).
Custom work
Work beyond a standard setup, such as connecting the system to other software or loading documents from an unusual source, gets a fixed quote after I understand what's needed.
What I don't offer
- A hosted or cloud version. The system runs in your office.
- Monthly support plans.
- Setups across more than one office.
- Limiting a person to certain documents inside one system, sign-in with a company-wide account or a second sign-in step, or e-discovery review. The system can't do these today.
Ask me about your firm
Email mike@quietbinder.com with a little about your firm and your documents, and I'll tell you which setup fits.
